this is eyewitness news this morning, coverage you can count on. >> right now on eyewitness news this morning, there is relief frr the family of a three-year-old who disappeared with his mother and an escaped inmate. >> and believe me, you don't know how happy i am. >> now, we are asking when the boy could return to florida. and a brevard county woman says she came home to find this, a car in her kitchen. we're work to find out what caused that crash. good morning, it is saturday february 13th. i'm darlene jones. time now is 6:00. first, here is a live look outside over downtown overlan toe this morning chl meteorologist marina jerick is in severe weather center 9.

morning but not going to stay mild as we head into the day. as expected, partly cloudy skies, cold front about to inch into our viewing area, and it is going to bring us a cooler valentine's weekend behind it. we can definitely see those people's exhibit no. skies, and it is feeling good out there for now. we are in the mid to upper 50s , and we are going to be in the 60s this afternoon behind that front. winds right now pretty quiet only about #5 to 10. we are going to see the northerly winds take over about 10 to 15 inland and up to 20 along the coast as we head into the day. as promised, 60s throughout the reon. a couple upper 50s in flagler and volusia county, but we are going to be cooler today and into tomorrow before we warm back up monday. developing this morning, we are working to find out when an es kauped inmate, his girlfriend, and her three-year-old son will return to florida. as we told you last night, they were found 800 miles away in kentucky.

julie is live in day toe na beach this morning where the r,io is last seen. the child's grandfather saws he's relieved no one was hurt in all that. dmr well, he was relieved that the two of them and his grandson were all caught no one luckily was hurt during all of this. now, the escaped prisoner ran off -- took off with his girlfriend from this hoe tole nearly three weeks ago, and the u.s. marshals's task force them took them spoo custody without any problem around 3:30 friday. they were in we are three-year-old son and located in kentucky. everyone is safe and the child is now in protective custody until he can be placed with family. bullock was serving an eight-year prison sentence for multiple felonies including robbery, blarly, and grand theft. about three weeks ago, he left at a hotel. he cut off his monitor bracelet and took off.

take a listen to how relieved he is. >> main thing is my grandson, zander, is coming home, and believe me, you toent -- don't know how happy i am. >> and the couple is now facing several charges, including escaping. and she is facing charges including helping with that escape, and we're told that more charges are pending. reporting live in volusia county, julie, eyewitness news this morning. new from overnight, a brevard county homeowner said she came home to find a car in her kitchen. take a look at this video. it happened on candlewick drive in melbourne just north of north wickham road. the homeowner told us she was at her sister's house when a neighbor called her about this crash. she told us this isn't the first time her home has been hit. >> well, i had an incident back on december the 10th where i also had a car come through the -- the sun room. they just don't seem to stop on forest lake. >> state troopers are

no injuries have been reported so far. also, new from overnight,working to find out what led police to rush a parking lot at a country club in daytona beach. you can see here in this video, police put up crime scene at the scene about 2:00 this morning. this is a a mile from the daytona international speedway. so far, they haven't called us back. we'll continue to monitor this story and bring you an update as soon as we get more information. overlan toe police returned to the scene of the deadly nightclub shooting. two were killed and several others were injured. we watched as crime scene investigators carried out camera equipment from inside the nightclub. there have been reports shooting could have had tied to drug operations in puerto rico. i spoke to an extert with the gang unit at the orange county jail, and he told us they spend time evaluating where criminals are coming from.

engineering, that data, try to determine whether or not they are bringing their crime trends or fwang trends to us. >> yesterday, we learned police arrested jose lopez the night of the shooting. he has since bonded out of jail on charges of carrying a concealed weapon and tampering with evidence. police expect more arrests in this case. tonight, the republican candidates for president will square off in a debate in south carolina, the site of the next republican primary. but last night, donald trump was in tampa to expand his lead over jeb bush and marco rubio. eyewitness news this morning's michael found out what that rally means at this point in the reyes. >> donald trump focussed mostly on policy, not on attacking his rivals. he almost didn't need to talk about the other dpies since he's leading them in most polls. as usual, donald trump dud not hold back in tampa. >> we are angry because we are run incompetent by incompetent people. we're run incompetent.

to sign a bill that would punish north korea. conducted its fourth nuclear test. yesterday, congress approved the bill preventing the country from getting the money it needs to develop nuclear warheads and long-range missiles. the u.s. has also temporarily deployed additional patriot missiles into south korea. and orlando police internal affairs officer is under investigation accused of hitting a vehicle in her city-issued car and driving away after she had been drinking. >> how long ago do you think your last beer was? >> i don't know. >> his dash camera video shows off duty officer. she said she wasn't in an accident, but a 911 caller saw the whole thing and took down her license plate. when officers arrived, they found damage to her car. investigators say she admitted to drinking, but altamonte police only gave her criminal

>> the 911 caller described her as being highly intoxicated. >> again, he did. that is something that the officer took into account, but everybody's definition of highly intoxicated is a full spectrum. >> she's now off the job. altamonte springs police say they are now investigating how that officer handled the call. palm bay police are searching for a man who they say years. these pictures here show douglas adams. he's accused of sexually abusing ago child. the picture on the left is what the 66-year-old looks like now. he was supposed to turn himself into police back in the late 1990s. investigators say he's now assumed the identity of a dead man. more information on our wftv facebook page to help police and their search. the school district still has not agreed to give its teachers a raise, but union leaders say there's been significant progress in negotiations.

good morning. we've got a cold front moving through as we speak. that is going to be changing our temperatures for the weekend. our satellite radar showing that we are partly cloudy so it's milder this morning but that frontal system already starting to enter giving you the bigger perspective here ushering in that cooler and clearer air. we will be looking at lots of sunshine as we move into the day today, which is fantastic. taking a look at current temps, we are in the 50s. so it is quite a comfortable, mild start. clouds have a lot to do with that, but as soon as those clouds clear and that front clears by 8:00 this morning, we are going to be looking at cooler temperatures, and it's going to get breezy. we are going to see northerly winds about 10 to 15 inland and up to 20 along the coast. right now, it's pretty quiet. you can start to see northerly winds as that frontal system starts to push forward. for your day today, front passing this morning. going to get cooler.

it'll be breezy. cooler night tonight. we are talking low 40s so it's going to be a chilly saturday night to head out and about into our early sunday morning. future track 89 is showing us the story very nicely here. that front will pass but. by 9:00, xhoetly clear, then tomorrow morning, i might be tracking a few showers along the coast in the morning. we are going to start to get a little bit of an onshore flow. as that happens, some isolated showers will start to move towards the i-4 corridor. it's very isolated, giving it about a 10% shot, but it's still there. keep that in mind for your sunday as we definitely will be cloudier. downtown orlando, upper 50s by 9:00 then you can see we pretty much top out in the mid to upper 60s by midday be 64 at noon. plenty of sunshine, but we are going to get that nice cool breeze that's going to make things feel cooler than they actually are. in lake county, plenty of sunshine. 63 in the villages.

64 mount -- 66 in claire minute. lees burg, lakes ot leesburg and the royal high lands and duke's lake and mascot looking at temperatures in the mid 60s. upper 60s as you head towards downtown orlando. 42 tonight. it's going to be a chilly start to your sunday morning but then we start to warm up into our monday before our next cold front mos through monday night into tuesday. it's not quite as strong so our temperatures will stay in the 70s for the rest of the week with our best chance of rain coming in on tuesday morning. darlene. an orange county school board member is defending her decision to spend taxpayer money on this controversial mural at apopka elementary school. it features school board member and apopka mayor on a wall that pays tribute to the city's history. so we asked is this really a political move instead. >> apopka mayor has only been in office two years and already has a mural in the entryway of apopka middle school. that's him holding the

county school board member, christine moore, who also happens to be a political consultant. >> some peel would say that put ago photo of you and the mayor and elementary schoolers is political. >> if you are going to do the history of the area, wouldn't that be an appropriate thing to do? >> the murals cost $6,500, and 2,500 came out of moore's school district budget. >> is this an appropriate use of taxpayer money? >> to history, absolutely. because the whole -- we've done history projects in all these schools. >> moore also commissioned this mural at elementary, but it focuses on nature, not politicians. 9 investigates has told you about other questions surrounding moore's role as a political consultant and school board member. she filed a complaint against a teacher at apopka high school over this campaign ad featured turg -- during the school play. as it turns out, the candidate featured in the ad is running against apopka city councilman

campaign manager. >> moore told us anyone who has an issue with the mural can help with the next project. the county school superintendent resigned after being investigated for allegedly making sexual passes at a coworker. sooun inten -- superunten dent catherine resigned hours before a school board meeting. associate superintendent greg rivers filed complaints against her, but she was cleared of any wrong doing. mount doris city officials decided to continue with their manager. earlier this week we told you the city stopped looking for candidates because f of scheduling conflicts. now, they'll continue the application and interview process until february 26th. the ks of finding a new interim city manager will run about $50,000. federal agencies are now working to see if there are any health lists linked to the rubber found on playgrounds and sports fields chl we told you about this artificial turf for months.

announced the centers for disease control, consumer products safety commission and the environmental protection agency will now work together to look for risks. crumb rubber is made up of ground up scrap tires. there are now fears mosquito-born zika virus can cause pregnant women to miscarry. the concerns come after two women suffered miskarnls. eyewitness news this morning's mike asks what orange county is now doing to combat that virus. >> it's a trap. >> you're trapping them in? >> yep. >> orange county mosquito control has all kinds of tools to trap and kill mosquitos. >> we want to get rid of all of them. >> this fog machine is one of the most powerful tools the county has to get that job done. >> and then -- >> this is what you spray to kill the ms. quitos. >> adult mosquitos in the evening. this is what you would see. >> but you won't see it this time of year. that's because it's not effective in cooler months, and that means orange county has one less tool to fight mosquitos.

two species only pick artificial containers. >> she's talking about two species in particular. those are the two species suspected of carrying the zika virus, but right now, there is no test to determine if any of these mosquitos actually has the virus, and because they only breed in manmade containers, the county is limited in what it can do to help. >> so difficult to control because it's up to everybody to try to see what's in their own yards and neighborhoods and get rid of that standing water. >> you can also find mosquitos breeding in local junk yards. the junk yard worker at no time want to talk with us on camera but showed how he pokes holes in trunks to drain the standing water. >> orange county mosquito control told us it plans to meet with its counterparts within the next couple of weeks to exchange ideas on how to best attack the population.

we'll be topping out at 64 degrees at 2:00. in apopka and the i-4 corridor, lots of sunshine as we top out at 64. in coco beach, pristine sunshine, as well, with a high of 64. developing this morning, a flagler county father is expected to head to kentucky this weekend to pick up his grandson after u.s. marshals found him with his mother and an escaped inmate. eyewitness news this morning's julie is live in daytona beach shores. julie, the woman's father says he has no idea why she left there with tes caped inmate. >> he told us he's had disappointments all his life but nothing like this, nothing as scary. now, it's been nearly three weeks since that prisoner escaped from this hotel in daytona beach shores just nearly three weeks ago. the u.s. marshals task force took gary bullock and his girlfriend, nat asha quigley

tifrnt law enforcement agency. former tepty barry taylor lost his job after he was accused of having sex with a female inmate, but a new document from the sheriff's office shows the department has now asked for a new prosecutor because taylor is related to one in brevard county. the main suspect in a brinks armored truck heist has rejected a plea deals and now scheduled to go on trial in may. take a look at this surveillance video here. orange county tep -- deputies say the man stealing the bag is charles chutes. he grabs the bag while the brinks driver was loading an atm last october. he rejected a deal to pay back $52,000 that's still missing, and he would have also been required to serve ten years in prison. a police officer has resigned after he came forward with information that his lieutenant might be protecting ing members. gregory hedges did not give a reason for quitting, but last

and another officer were tipped off by nofrmants and claimed he was involved in selling drugs and protecting gang members. hedges was written up for that i canning that to the orange koungty sheriff's office and for not reporting it within his own department. crime scene investigator spent all night looking for clues at an orlando nightclub where 2002 people were killed nearly a week ago. yesterday, we told you police arrested one person in that shooting. the suspect has since bonded out of jail. police won't say why they returned to the club overnight, but eyewitness news report it is police chief says detectives are working around the clock to make more arrests. >> nearly a week after a deadly gun battle erupted inside the glitz ultra lounge, police and the crime scene unit were back out here. they surrounded the clean up with yellow tape but would not tell me why they were there investigating. the two men killed were joseph and jonathan rojas. rojas, according to a newspaper out of puerto rico, says he was

crimes there. the newspaper also stated sources that believe the gunman who shot the man could have been ordered by a drug kingpin out of orlando. he did not know whether puerto rico's failing economy is bringing drug turf wars here. >> any time there is loss of life is a concern. >> gang expeart rusty who worked for years as commander of the gang unit at the orange county jail told me it should be a concern. an incident like this raises some questions. >> obviously, we need to look at to determine whether or not if this is somewhat of an isolated case or these individuals or these dproups, if it turns out to be that, have somewhat of a foothold here. are they just coming here to visit to take care or something or coming here to establish something? >> eyewitness news. >> the club is now closed. orlando police told us while there were extensive security measures in place, there was either a lapse in that security or staff at the club did not

daytona beach police are still looking for two people who robbed a woman at gunpoint in her driveway. take a look at this sketch here. police say they believe a man who looks like this and an accomplice robbed a woman on north grand view avenue last week. the victim told police both men had guns and demanded money. she gave them $50 cash, and they took off. if you recognize this person, you are asked to call daytona police. if you pay for flood insurance, your premium paechlts may soon change. the county will discuss new coastal flood insurance rate maps during two meetings on february 25th. the meetings are at the port korng regional library. residents could check out the maps and ask questions how they could be impacted. brevard, seminole, and sum ter counties all earned a grades. six other counties each earned an overall grade of b. district officials say the credit should go to the teachers. >> they really focussed on teaching the stand arz, the standards for their particular

we top out at 66 degrees in 2:00. palm bay, we'll see plenty of sunshine throughout brevard county as we see a high of 65. it's hawk nesting season, and port orange city leaders are warning visitors to watch out for the aggressive birds when they try to go to the library. city officials place signs warning people at the library and around city hall about a month ago. take a look at this video. swooped over our camera when we were there yesterday. the woman told us one of the birds attacked her mother. others are worried the hawks could cause serious injuries. >> they are aggressive. they are predators. i mean, i just think that if we had an alligator over in the pond, they wouldn't let it stay there. it's a threat to people. >> the birds and their nests are protected, so they can't be moved. hawk-nesting season usually lasts about three months. imagine living near a house constantly hosting wild parties full of sex and guns. >> it's a place are you can come and be yourself. >> anchor jamie holmes confronts

investigation questioning why the storm. the international space station will have to wait for more supplies from the cape canaveral airport station. a launch was delayed because mold was found in some of the bags carrying the supplies. the orbital spacecraft was supposed to launch on march 10th, but officials say the spacecraft won't launch now until some time after that. decontaminating the bag. officials say the bags would not have harmed the astronauts in space. florida wildlife officials spent the week counting just how many are swimming in our waters. this is the last day for the manatee population. they spotted more than 6,000 last year. manatees have been reclassified from endangered to threatened this year because of their growing population. time now is 6:48. wow! gorgeous sunrise to start our day. >> it is absolutely beautiful so if you got some plans to head out and about, we are going to

rest of the day because of a cold front that's moving through as we speak. you can see that clearing line of those clouds, which is unbelievable taking a look at this live shot here of downtown orlando. we are going to continue to clear as that front slowly but surely pushes through. so right now, right on top of mareon and flagler county. it is going to be pushing rapidly through our area here in the next 60 minutes. our satellite radar showing, of course, the broader perspective. it is going to be bringing in some cooler air behind it. so cooler and breezy with northerly winds at about 10 to 15 as we head into the rest of the day today. so 50s right now. it's quite mild. tomorrow morning we are going to be waking up to temperatures 15 degrees cooler than this, so wait for the low 40s early sunday. dew points are in the 40s and 50s. very comfortable. they are foing to get drier as we head into the next few hours. so there's future track 9 hour by hour pushing that cold front completely out of here by 9:00 in the morning and then tomorrow, we are going to get a bit more of an onshore flow.

to start to see a chance for scattered, isolated showers along the coastline, then as we head spoo the afternoon, it's going to push towards the i-4 corridor. about a 10% chance, very isolated. i want you to know that tomorrow afternoon, we could be looking at a couple of showers as we head into the day. it'll definitely be cloudier. we've got the next two fronts on tap. this morning, our first front will push through in the next couple of hours. as we head into sunday, clouds will increase. monday night into tuesday morning is going to be our best shot with that second front pushing through as we head spoo the middle of the week. our best chance of rain will hold off until monday night into tuesday morning, but we could see a few sprinkles tomorrow. along the coast today, pristine sunshine, however, we are going to continue to see moderate rips as well as a small craft advisory because the winds will be gusty today. 65 in melbourne and coco. merit island, 64 in titusville. 58 in new smyrna beach. 59 in day toe na beach. 57 in flagler. definitely cooler.
